Blogging- The New Floor Wax

I've spent an inordinate amount of time online today. What with Jenny in Seattle, my new job not starting until Monday, and, most telling of all- I have a final early next week, I find myself drawn to the computer. Once upon a time, as Jared pointed out, I used to wax floors whenever I had a major paper due or test to take the next day. I guess I have that spark within me of being a procrastinator- not just a procrastinator, but a procrastinator's procrastinator- I mean here I am trying to procrastinate studying for my final by blogging and I find myself procrastinating writing anything substantive and just end up writing about procrastinating instead.

So in the true spirit of procrastination, I am now going to do google picture searches for random things that pop into my mind, and see if anything catches my eye:

Exhibit A. An old woman, apparently a Gypsy, sitting in a small doorway, smoking a cigar. Those are some smashing earings if you ask me. Notice that booze and cigarettes are ready to step in when the cigar runs out. This brings me back to the mission when people like this would call out to us as we walked down the Argentine streets. Their calls were usually accompanied by proclamations of being a prophet interspersed with hiccups.

Which of the three kingdoms do snowmen go to when they melt? If they make a child happy, have they fulfilled the measure of their creation, and thus attain the celestial? I guess he would have to be married to a Mrs. Frosta, or else he'll just be a snow angel. HA!

This picture almost made me cry when I saw it. Then laugh. You can almost see the look of concern on this poor duck's face. I think the duck is one of the funnier animals, along with the llama (oh no, I have llama face!!), and poop flinging chimps. Jenny and I have a friend named Erin (not you, Erin) who goes into contortions whenever she hears the word 'llama'. She just loves the word so much that brings her arms in like a chicken, and starts repeating the word 'llama': "Llaaaaaammmmaaaaa! Llama llama llama llama llaaaaammmmaaa!"

This is a picture of Mars that will be taken by the Mars rover in about 4 years.

It is a little known fact by people not of my immediate family that Jenny and I had brownies instead of a wedding cake at our wedding reception, stacked neatly in wedding cake formation, alongside a bowl full of cartons of milk.

Well, I think that's enough procrastinating for now. It's bed time.

Ok, can someone teach me how to do formatting with pictures so the above is never repeated again?

I laughed at the Mars picture, then I felt really sad because it reminded my of Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles.

But really, I think the questions all of us are asking is, "What did Nick use for search terms?" Was your mind so far from studying that you actually formulated the search "baby ducks falling in sewer grate?"

Nothing too exciting- after awhile I had a brain fart and just typed in "funny"

Speaking of funny pictures, I was at Eric Snider's site and he had this on there. Quite funny.

Procastination log- April 29, 2006

I had a few close calls today. I had slept in until 10, I had made a big breakfast, and I had planted all the plants I bought at the nursery, when I suddenly found my thoughts wandering to studying for the Big F. Realizing my desperate state, I remembered I still had some seed potatos that needed planting. I quickly ran downstairs, then, getting my head about me, I slowed down. I found the potatos, and took about halk an hour planting them. Then I remembered I had planted some zinnias last week that probably needed some weeding done around them. After sitting on the couch to eat a caramello bar and listen to This American Life I found my thoughts wandering again to the dreaded final. Thats when inspiration struck- I can blog!!

Procrastination log- April 29, 2006, 9:15 pm

Well I was sitting there, right on the verge of cracking the book open, when God must have seen my plight, and sent one of the Priests over to take me out for a whopper. We returned home, but He apparently opened the windows of heaven since two more priests came over asking me to take them to Big 5, and then they'd buy me cookies. Between all those trips and hanging out, I managed to burn through 3 hours study free!!! After they left, a tour of the now almost completely planted garden was in order. Then Maggie required playing with, so we engaged in a rousing game of fetch, and then chase, after which we practiced frisbee. She loves it, but still doesn't quite understand that you're supposed to CATCH the frisbee.

Well, here I am. I think I've run out of excuses. It's been long enough. Time to pull it out and have at it. Time to read Lord of the Rings again. All that talk about Tom B. made me thirsty for Tolkien. Thanks Jared!

Oh dear ...

I think the real question is, how did the final go, honey?

Well I managed to read through the "comncerning Hobbits", and then through chapter one, then...Oh wait, you asked how the final went. I guess it was ok. I'm under the impression I did about as well as several other people, and I can't see him failing ALL of us...

Jenny, let me just remind you that we of the LDS faith believe in the principle of agency--one's freedom to choose his or her own course. Based on this fundamental belief, it must be concluded that Nick chose for himself to reread The Lord of the Rings. He neither say the devil made him do it, nor that I did.

With that out of the way: they're fun to read, eh Nick?
