Jenny Webb: Blogger Extraordinaire

It seems that Jenny's way with words has gotten around. She was recently invited to be a guest blogger on one of the big mormon blogs, Times and Seasons. I encourage all to go read, comment, and heckle.

How exactly did you manage to pull that off?

I just want to say I recommend everyone reading Jenny's post on times and seasons. (It is really good) And then read Nick's comment. His comment juxtaposed to all the sisters' comments is hilarious.

Thanks Morgan--I did marry a witty lad, didn't I?

As far as the "pulling it off" ... an old friend (Naomi Frandsen) is Rosalynde Welch's (one of T&S's permabloggers) sister. Rosalynde asked Naomi if she knew anyone who might be a guest there for two weeks and we just happened to be having Naomi over for dinner before driving her to the airport (she lives in D.C. but was in town for a family reunion sans car) and ... you can kind of figure it out from there. :)

So what exactly does it mean to be a guest blogger? Why don't they just make you permanent? Is this some kind of try out thing?

I guess I should have mentioned in the original post that shes a guest blogger for two weeks. They have about a dozen regular bloggers, and at any given time they have 1-2 guest bloggers. Guest bloggers typically write 4-8 posts during their two weeks.

As someone who reads times and seasons at least every other day when I'm bored at work, I really like the guest bloggers- the regulars get kind of boring.

You wouldn't know it from reading the ensign, but there are literally hundreds of Mormon themed blogs, ranging from ultraorthodox Kaysville faithful, to downright apostate. There is a loose association of mormon blogs called the bloggernacle that is basically all the "faithful" blogs- that is, they don't include the "recovering mormon", "or mormons are evil" type blogs. T&S is more mainstream and academic- they've mostly got professors, lawyers, and other academic type people as their regular bloggers.

So, I had never read the times and seasons blog before, but it's now one of my regular stops on the information superhighway.

In a completely unrelated note...Nick and Jenny: how's the garden doing? Is it too late in the season for anything to be growing?

Its still going. We've got tons of basil, some tomatos, carrots, peppers, we just picked the pumpkins. I've been meaning to do one last garden journal post, but I haven't gotten around to putting enough time into it to do it justice.

Hey! we don't have your new number.

Yes we do. Just you don't. (Sorry. It's top secret wife-to-wife communication information.)

By the way, it looks like Naomi Frandsen has been invited to guest blog on By Common Consent, which is another, more liberal, Mormon group blog.

If you wives share with us this secret of "communication" we'll share our secret of "amplifying the noises of your bodily functions" with you.
