against my will

So blogger finally dragged me, kicking and screaming, to the new blogger. It wouldn't let me sign in to the old blogger any more, and so I am, now, officially up-to-date. I suppose blogger thinks it's good for me - but I don't like change. The only plus is that I'm now able to post here again - not that I have anything interesting to say today - just hello & I'm still here.

This makes me think of the line Beatrice says to Benedick in "Much Ado About Nothing." He's just overheard a (planted) conversation that has now convinced him that she is wildly in love with him but would rather die than let him know. He is, most obligingly, now ready to be nice to her. She, however, has yet to overhear another conversation (also planted) to convince her that he loves her. In other words, he's falling for her, and she's still hardened against him. So they send her out to call him in for dinner. It goes something like this:

Beatrice: Against my will, I am sent to call you in to dinner.

(Ensuing conversation where Benedick tries to flirt with a confused Beatrice. She eventually leaves.)

Benedick: "Against my will, I am sent to call you in to dinner." (Pause) There's a double meaning in that!

It's part of the play that has always struck me as very amusing. So, Julie, you say you're finally here on the updated blogger against your will, but really I think that there's a double meaning in that and that what you're really saying is that you're delighted to be here :)
